Objective
This historic lodge is a former US Forest Service Training Center managed by the Wind River Trust. The primary objective was to restore the lodge’s fireplace system so that it could be safely used while preserving the facility’s historic character and minimizing disruption to its operations.
Challenges
The project faced several challenges:
- Historic Preservation: Carson Lodge is a historic building, requiring careful handling to maintain its original architectural features during the upgrade.
- Aging Fireplace Systems: The lodge’s primary fireplace is approaching its one hundredth birthday. A chimney of this age requires specific expertise and very thorough examination its wear and tear
- Operational Constraints: As an active lodge, it was crucial to complete the work with minimal impact on the residents’ daily operations.
Process
The project process included:
- Consultation: Worked with the Wind River Trust board and management to understand project goals and constraints.
- Inspection and Planning: Conducted detailed inspections and developed a comprehensive plan to address both functional upgrades and preservation needs.
